The FAQ for ZoneHound
Q. What versions of Solaris are supported by ZoneHound?
A. It has been tested on Solaris 2.7 through Solaris 10 operating
systems, but it's really only useful on Solaris 10 systems with
zones.
Q. When I try to run ZoneHound, I get the message "ZoneHound: not
found". What's wrong?
A. Check the following:
- Are you root?
- Does the ZoneHound script really exist? (look for /opt/zonehound/bin/zonehound).
- Is /opt/zonehound/bin in your PATH variable? (echo $PATH)
Q. How much CPU does ZoneHound use?
A. About 0.25% of one CPU at the default settings, but it will depend on the speed of
the processor. This could be higher if data is collected more frequently.
Q. Why did ZoneHound stop producing reports?
A. Run 'zonehound -h' and look for the expiration date at the bottom of the
usage text. If you've licensed ZoneHound and the expiration date doesn't
make sense to you, run 'zonehound -s' and send us the output.
Q. How do I control the starting and ending times of the period
being analyzed?
A. Control the starting time by making zonehound one of root's crontab
entries and specifying the starting time in the crontabs file. Control the
ending time by specifying the length of time that you want it to run. For
example, to run ZoneHound every day from 9:00AM until 4:00PM, use the
following crontab entry:
0 9 * * * /opt/sarcheck/bin/zonehound -daylen 25200
The number of seconds between 9:00AM and 4:00PM is 25200.
Q. How do I collect data every 5 minutes from 08:00 to
18:00?
A. The crontab entries should look like this:
0 8 * * * /opt/sarcheck/bin/zonehound -daylen 36000 -wrfreq 300
Q. How can I try ZoneHound on my Solaris 10 system?
A. You can request an evaluation copy by email or by calling us. Send an email
to sales@sarcheck.com or call us at +1-603-382-4200 (U.S residents, please ignore
the '+')
